As part of the WHAT REMAINS project, I traveled deep into the interior of the United States to document the lives of individuals who have migrated and are now living what is often called “The American Dream.” But what invisible borders do they continue to face, ones that must be crossed again and again? What do they hold onto in order to find the strength to live in a country where trust and belonging are often elusive? This series seeks to capture the objects that remain in their lives—those personal items that endure even after crossing borders and overcoming immense challenges. Interviews for this project are currently being conducted in Colorado and Texas, in collaboration with The University of Colorado and The Renee Crown Institute of Wellness.
